Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Brentwood is large lots with older custom homes and heavy renovation activity. Services sized decades ago rarely survive a modern kitchen, pool equipment and two EV chargers.
Brentwood Park, with its wide curving streets and big lots, was built out mostly between the 1910s and 1940s, and many of those original homes have been replaced or rebuilt. Up the canyons, Mandeville and Kenter have long driveways and homes set well back from the street. Crestwood Hills is a postwar cooperative of modernist houses from the late 1940s and 1950s, and below Sunset there is a band of condos and apartments along San Vicente and Barrington.
The condo blocks south of Sunset generate a different kind of call than the estates. Associations there deal with 1960s and 1970s meter rooms, aluminum feeders and residents asking for chargers. Up the canyons, owners call about voltage drop on long service runs and power to guest houses and pool equipment. In Crestwood Hills, owners restoring midcentury houses want new wiring routed without damaging original wood ceilings and post and beam framing.
Brentwood rebuilds and remodels routinely add pool equipment, large HVAC systems and multiple chargers to services sized decades ago.
How we handle it →Two and three car Brentwood households are adding Level 2 chargers, often in detached garages set far from the main panel.
How we handle it →Condo and apartment buildings along San Vicente and Barrington run on aging 1960s and 1970s meter rooms.
How we handle it →Original Brentwood Park and Crestwood Hills homes still carry early wiring that does not support modern grounded circuits.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Brentwood is permitted through LA Dept of Building and Safety, and the service is energized by LADWP. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Brentwood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so LADBS issues permits and LADWP supplies the power. The order on a service change is an LADBS permit, LADWP approval of the service design and meter location, an LADWP disconnect, the installation, and an LADBS inspection. Once the inspection passes, LADBS releases the service and LADWP reconnects. Canyon properties with long underground runs or relocated meters typically need LADWP service planning involved before we finalize the design.
It does. On long runs in Mandeville or Kenter Canyon, voltage drop sets the conductor size as much as the amperage does, so the feeder may need to be larger than the panel rating suggests. Meter location matters too, because LADWP has rules about where meters can go. We measure the run, size the conductors for it, and confirm the meter spot with LADWP before trenching.
Usually, with planning. Post and beam houses in Crestwood Hills have exposed wood ceilings and few attic spaces, so new wiring often routes through floors, closets or surface raceway chosen to suit the architecture. We walk the house first and map routes before anything is opened. The goal is to replace the wiring and leave the parts of the house people bought it for alone.
Electrical permits in Brentwood are issued by LA Dept of Building and Safety. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Brentwood is served by LADWP. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
