Learn more →La Crescenta is foothill housing from the 1920s through the 1960s, so knob and tube remnants and early cloth wiring both turn up. Being unincorporated, the permit goes through LA County rather than Glendale.
Settlement here dates to the 1880s, but most of what you see was built between the 1920s and the 1960s, and county planning figures put the large majority of housing in La Crescenta-Montrose before 1979. Streets climb toward the San Gabriel Mountains, so many homes sit on a grade with a basement or raised foundation. Those crawl spaces are where we find spliced cloth wire, abandoned circuits and the occasional run of old knob and tube that was cut off but never removed.
A typical call here starts with a buyer's inspection or an insurance renewal. Another common one comes from owners finishing a lower level or converting a garage, then learning the old service cannot carry the new space. Above Foothill Boulevard, hillside homes often have long service drops and wiring that has seen decades of temperature swings in attics. Families adding heat pumps and EV chargers make up a growing share of our work in the Crescenta Valley.

How we handle it →Postwar ranch homes in La Crescenta built in the 1950s and 1960s commonly have Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels flagged by insurers.
How we handle it →Finished basements, garage conversions and heat pumps in La Crescenta usually push older 100 amp services past their limit.
How we handle it →La Crescenta households with garages or long driveways add Level 2 chargers, often alongside a panel upgrade.
How we handle it →Electrical work in La Crescenta is permitted through LA County Public Works (unincorporated), and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Unincorporated La Crescenta is permitted through LA County Public Works Building and Safety, and Southern California Edison supplies the power. Some streets nearby fall inside Glendale city limits and use Glendale's permits and Glendale Water and Power instead, so we confirm jurisdiction from the parcel first. For county addresses the order is the county permit, an SCE disconnect, the county inspection, then SCE release and reconnect.
The line is irregular, and neighbors on the same street can be in different jurisdictions. Your property tax bill, your power bill and the county parcel record all tell you. If SCE sends your electric bill, you are almost certainly in the unincorporated area. If Glendale Water and Power does, you are in the city. We verify before quoting because the permit office and utility both change.
Usually new circuits, outlets spaced to code, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and often a bathroom with its own dedicated circuit. The bigger question is whether your service can handle it. Many La Crescenta homes are still on 100 amps. We run a load calculation first, so you know up front whether the project needs a panel upgrade.
Electrical permits in La Crescenta are issued by LA County Public Works (unincorporated). Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
La Crescenta is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
