Learn more →Eagle Rock is full of 1920s Spanish and Craftsman homes, which means knob and tube, cloth wire and 60 amp fused services are all still out there. Whole home rewires are the bread and butter here.
Eagle Rock was its own city from 1911 until it voted to join Los Angeles in 1923, and the residential streets still read like a small town filled in between the 1910s and the 1940s. Beyond Spanish and Craftsman homes there are Georgian, Mission Revival and Streamline Moderne houses, plus later midcentury homes in the hills toward Glendale and Pasadena. Older plaster walls make rewiring slower and more careful, and we plan circuit routes through attics and crawl spaces to keep wall openings small.
Most calls come from new owners. Eagle Rock has been a popular landing spot for families moving up from smaller neighborhoods, and the inspection report on an older house often lists a fused service, ungrounded outlets and a panel at capacity. We also get calls from owners adding an ADU or reworking a kitchen, and from landlords near Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards with small apartment buildings. Occidental College nearby keeps rental demand steady.
Eagle Rock homes from the 1910s through 1930s often still carry knob and tube or cloth wiring that buyers and insurers want replaced.
How we handle it →Eagle Rock houses on original 60 amp fused services need upgrades before kitchen remodels, cooling or ADUs can be added.
How we handle it →Eagle Rock homes with driveways add Level 2 chargers, often while the service is being upgraded anyway.
How we handle it →Midcentury Eagle Rock hillside homes sometimes have Zinsco or Federal Pacific panels insurers flag at renewal.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Eagle Rock is permitted through LA Dept of Building and Safety, and the service is energized by LADWP. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Since annexation in 1923, Eagle Rock has been part of the City of Los Angeles, so LADBS issues permits and LADWP supplies power. A typical upgrade means an LADBS permit, an LADWP service request and disconnect, the work, the LADBS inspection, then LADWP reconnect. Full rewires in occupied homes are often phased, and inspections are scheduled at rough in and at the end, so plaster patching waits until rough in passes.
Usually, yes. We work room by room, keep at least some circuits live each night and use attic and crawl space access to limit wall openings. Kitchens and bathrooms are the most disruptive days. Plan for plaster repair after inspection, and if you are also upgrading the service, expect one planned outage day for the LADWP disconnect and reconnect.
A full panel can mean it is too small or just that circuits are poorly organized. Sometimes replacing it with a larger panel on the same service gives you room. If your load calculation shows the service itself is too small, a 200 amp upgrade is the cleaner fix. We look at both before recommending anything.
Electrical permits in Eagle Rock are issued by LA Dept of Building and Safety. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Eagle Rock is served by LADWP. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
