Learn more →Del Sur is sparse desert parcels with long service drops and standalone outbuildings. Sizing the main correctly the first time avoids a second Edison visit, which out here is the expensive part.
About nine miles west of Quartz Hill, Del Sur is a small, mostly rural community where the desert opens toward the western Antelope Valley. The name, Spanish for of the south, goes back to an old store and post office. Homes are scattered single family houses and manufactured homes on large parcels, often with a horse setup, a detached garage or a metal shop building and plenty of open ground between neighbors.
Properties here tend to grow over time, and we often find wiring that was extended as needs changed: a feeder to a shed, a pump on its own breaker, a welder outlet in the shop. Those runs are not necessarily wrong, but they rarely show up in any load calculation. Calls usually come when someone wants to add something substantial, such as a charger, a second home for family or solar, and needs to know what the service can actually carry.
Del Sur properties often add shops, pumps and second homes to an original service that was never recalculated for those loads.
How we handle it →Long drives from Del Sur to Lancaster and Palmdale make a dedicated Level 2 charger one of the more useful upgrades here.
How we handle it →Wiring extended piecemeal to sheds, pumps and shops on Del Sur parcels often needs to be redone to meet current code.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Del Sur is permitted through LA County Public Works (unincorporated), and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Del Sur is unincorporated land in LA County, so Public Works issues permits, and Edison provides the service. Because Edison trips this far west take planning, we aim to get everything done in one cycle: permit filed, disconnect scheduled, work completed, county inspection passed, release sent and power restored. Solar added later needs its own permit and Edison interconnection approval, so it pays to plan both together.
Sometimes, but a 100 amp panel limits how much solar it can accept, and a charger adds a large continuous load. Many Del Sur owners end up upgrading to 200 amps, which leaves room for both and for future outbuildings. We calculate the load, check the busbar rating and recommend the most practical setup before any equipment is ordered.
Typically a new meter pedestal or a subpanel fed from the main service, a properly sized underground feeder and a grounding electrode at the new home. Whether a second meter or a subpanel makes more sense depends on the load and on Edison's requirements. The county will also need to approve the placement itself.
Electrical permits in Del Sur are issued by LA County Public Works (unincorporated). Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Del Sur is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
