Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Sand Canyon is large semi rural parcels with barns, shops and guest units, which is the classic case for a 400 amp service and multiple subpanels. Long runs and inspection scheduling both shape the job.
Sand Canyon is the equestrian, large lot corner of Canyon Country, with custom estates among the most expensive in the Santa Clarita Valley. Most homes are custom built on parcels with horse facilities, riding trail access, guest houses and long private drives. Ranch properties such as Robinson Ranch and Sable Ranch give the area its character, and the 2016 Sand Fire, which burned through the canyon, is still on owners' minds.
Projects here are larger than average. Owners plan standby generators or whole home batteries for fire season outages, Level 2 chargers for several vehicles, pool and spa equipment, arena lighting and power to barns. Older estates built before the area joined the city may have mixed equipment from several decades of additions. We also see requests to move overhead lines underground as part of a remodel or fire hardening project.
Sand Canyon estates with barns, guest houses and pools often need 400 amp services and multiple subpanels to carry everything.
How we handle it →Sand Canyon households often charge several vehicles at once, which calls for planned circuits or load management.
How we handle it →Older Sand Canyon estates built before annexation often have mixed wiring from decades of additions that needs to be brought up to code.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Sand Canyon is permitted through City of Santa Clarita, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Sand Canyon joined the City of Santa Clarita in 1987, with more parcels annexed through 2012 and 2013, so most properties are now permitted through the city's building and safety division rather than LA County. A few edge parcels may still be county land, so we check before filing. On long private drives, Edison sometimes needs to review a new service location first. After that it is permit, utility disconnect, installation and inspection, and Edison restores power once it gets the release.
Both can work. One large service with a subpanel for the guest house is simpler and often less expensive. A separate meter makes sense if the guest house is rented or you want separate billing. Edison has to approve any second meter. We look at the loads and how you use the property and recommend the better fit.
For most estates, a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch is the most reliable option, especially for wells, barn fans and refrigeration. Whole home batteries work well for the house but may need help with large motor loads. Some owners combine solar, batteries and a smaller generator. We size the system around what must stay on during an outage.
Electrical permits in Sand Canyon are issued by City of Santa Clarita. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Sand Canyon is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
