Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Woodland Hills spans 1950s ranch homes and much larger newer construction in the hills, so services here range from an original 100 amps to modern 400 amp equipment. Summer heat and heavy air conditioning load make undersized panels show themselves quickly.
Woodland Hills began as Girard, a town Victor Girard laid out in 1922, and took its current name in the 1940s. Real growth came after the war, when ranch tracts spread across the flats north of Ventura and later climbed the hills toward Mulholland. Walnut Acres kept larger lots and a semi rural feel. Warner Center brought office towers and, more recently, dense apartment and mixed use buildings. Few Los Angeles neighborhoods mix low density hillside living and new high density housing as sharply as this one.
The west end of the Valley runs hotter than almost anywhere in Los Angeles County, and Pierce College set the county record of 121 degrees in 2020. That heat drives the calls: second air conditioning systems, larger heat pumps and pool equipment running all afternoon. Homeowners in the older tracts also call about insurer flagged panels and EV chargers. In Warner Center, property managers ask about charging in parking structures and capacity in buildings designed before EV adoption took off.
Summer heat in Woodland Hills means heavy AC and pool loads, and many 1950s and 1960s services cannot carry them plus an EV.
How we handle it →Warner Center apartments and condos are adding parking garage chargers, and hillside homes need charger circuits planned around long garage runs.
How we handle it →Postwar ranch tracts across the Woodland Hills flats commonly have Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels that insurers flag at renewal.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Woodland Hills is permitted through LA Dept of Building and Safety, and the service is energized by LADWP. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Even at the far west edge of the Valley, Woodland Hills is LADBS and LADWP territory. Hillside properties near Mulholland can have long service runs and limited truck access, which we plan around before the outage. A house service change goes from permit to an LADWP shutoff, then installation, a city inspection and the utility turning power back on. Larger commercial and multi-unit work in Warner Center usually needs LADBS plan review and LADWP service planning before any equipment is ordered.
Usually the service is undersized for the cooling load. When older Woodland Hills homes add a second AC system, a pool pump and an EV, the original 100 or 125 amp main can be overloaded on the hottest days. We do a load calculation, check the main breaker and connections for heat damage, and recommend either a service upgrade or load management. A worn main breaker can also trip early, so we test it.
Possibly, but both compete for room in the panel. Solar backfeeds through the busbar, and a 100 amp panel limits how much solar can connect there. Add an EV charger and the load calculation often tips toward a 200 amp upgrade. Doing the panel first, sized for both, avoids redoing work when the second project comes along. LADWP reviews the solar interconnection separately.
Electrical permits in Woodland Hills are issued by LA Dept of Building and Safety. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Woodland Hills is served by LADWP. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
