Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Ontario has one of the larger stocks of prewar housing in the Inland Empire around downtown and Euclid Avenue, a wide belt of postwar tracts and apartments, and the new Ontario Ranch development in the south. Knob and tube, meter bank replacements and new EV charging can all come up in the same week here.
The neighborhoods around downtown and along Euclid Avenue hold Craftsman and period revival homes from the early 1900s through the 1930s, built when Ontario was a citrus colony. Many still have knob and tube or mixed original wiring, small services and additions wired over the years. Moving out, the 1950s and 1960s tracts make up much of the city, and those homes commonly have original panels, including brands insurers flag, and services that cannot carry modern AC loads.
Apartments, duplexes and fourplexes are common throughout central Ontario, so property managers call about meter banks, house panels and legal metering for added units. South of the 60, Ontario Ranch is newer master planned housing with modern services, where the work is EV chargers and solar plus storage. The city also has a large industrial and warehouse base, but most of our residential work here is panel, meter and wiring replacement in older properties.
Ontario's many apartments, duplexes and fourplexes make meter bank replacement and legal metering for added units a frequent request.
How we handle it →Prewar homes near downtown Ontario and Euclid Avenue often still have knob and tube or mixed original wiring that needs replacement.
How we handle it →Ontario's 1950s and 1960s tracts have many original panels, including Zinsco and Federal Pacific, that insurers flag.
How we handle it →Ontario Ranch homes are recent construction with modern 200 amp services, so adding a Level 2 charger rarely requires touching the main.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Ontario is permitted through City of Ontario, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Electrical permits in Ontario come from the city's Building Department, and Southern California Edison provides service. For a house, that means a permit, a scheduled Edison outage, the installation and a city inspection before Edison restores power. On apartment buildings, meter bank replacements need tenant notice, coordination with Edison on meter numbering and seals, and an outage plan that minimizes time without power for every unit in the building.
Signs include corroded or damaged meter sockets, overheating at connections, breakers that no longer hold, or a meter bank too small to serve all the units legally. Insurance inspections and Edison sometimes flag them too. Replacing the bank as a planned project, with tenant notice and a coordinated outage, costs far less disruption than an emergency failure.
Not necessarily all at once. Some owners rewire in stages, starting with circuits that have been modified or that serve kitchens and baths. Insurers often want it gone, though, and it cannot be buried under insulation. We inspect what is there, identify any unsafe splices into newer wiring, and give you a plan that fits your budget and timeline.
Electrical permits in Ontario are issued by City of Ontario. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Ontario is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
