Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Chino grew from a dairy and farming town into a commuter city, so its housing runs from older homes near downtown to postwar tracts and the large new development at The Preserve. Original panels and undersized services are common in the older neighborhoods, while newer homes are mostly asking for EV and solar capacity.
The blocks around downtown Chino have the oldest houses in the city, including small homes from before World War II, many with additions built over the decades. Spreading out from there, most of the city is single family tracts from the 1950s through the 1980s, along with apartment complexes and duplexes. Those homes are where we find original panels, ungrounded circuits and services that were never upgraded as kitchens, AC and laundry rooms were added.
In the southern part of the city, The Preserve and College Park brought thousands of newer homes on former dairy and state land, built from the 2000s onward with modern 200 amp services. The work there is EV chargers, solar plus storage, and garage circuits. Landlords and property managers with older rental homes and small multifamily buildings call about panel replacements and meter upgrades. Summer heat is serious here, and AC load is often the reason an older service finally needs to be replaced.
Older Chino homes with added AC, laundry rooms and kitchen remodels often run on services that cannot carry summer loads.
How we handle it →Chino's 1950s through 1970s tracts have original panels that insurers and buyers' inspectors commonly flag.
How we handle it →Newer homes in The Preserve and College Park usually have capacity for Level 2 chargers, so the work is mostly circuit runs and placement.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Chino is permitted through City of Chino, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Chino's Building and Safety division issues electrical permits, and Edison serves the city. Once the permit is issued, Edison disconnects, we replace the equipment, the city inspects, and Edison turns the power back on. Because summer outages are hard on occupants, we try to schedule service changes in cooler months or early in the day, especially for rental properties where tenants need advance notice.
It depends on the service size and what is already on it. Many older homes here started on 60 or 100 amp services, and adding central air on top of an electric dryer and kitchen appliances can push them past their limit. A load calculation tells us whether the existing service works or whether an upgrade to 200 amps is needed before the AC goes in.
Between tenants is a good time to check the panel brand and condition, look for ungrounded outlets and unpermitted circuits, test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and confirm GFCI protection in kitchens, baths and outside. If the panel is a brand insurers flag, replacing it while the unit is empty avoids disrupting the next tenant.
Electrical permits in Chino are issued by City of Chino. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Chino is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
