Learn more →Camarillo grew out of ranch and orchard land after the 1960s, so most homes are postwar tract construction with a small older core along Ventura Boulevard. Leisure Village, the large senior community, adds a lot of 1960s and 1970s housing that still runs on original electrical equipment.
Old Town Camarillo, along Ventura Boulevard, has the oldest buildings in the city, including small commercial spaces and houses that predate incorporation in 1964. Beyond that core, most of the city is single family tracts from the 1960s through the 1980s, with Mission Oaks and neighborhoods near the 101 typical of the era. Those homes are where we find original 100 amp panels, Federal Pacific breakers and ungrounded circuits in bedrooms that were never updated.
Spanish Hills and other hillside developments brought large custom homes with long driveways and detached structures. In Leisure Village, many owners are retirees who want reliable equipment, accessible outlets and safe kitchens, and the association reviews exterior changes. Across the city we get calls about EV charging, solar systems approaching the limit of the panel, and replacing insurance flagged equipment. Agricultural land around the edges also brings the occasional ranch outbuilding with a service that needs attention.
Camarillo's 1960s and 1970s tracts and Leisure Village homes commonly have original Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels flagged by insurers.
How we handle it →Postwar homes in Camarillo adding solar, EV charging and central air often need a move from 100 amps to 200 amps.
How we handle it →Camarillo commuters on the 101 frequently add Level 2 charging, and hillside homes often need long runs to detached garages.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Camarillo is permitted through City of Camarillo, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
The City of Camarillo's Building and Safety division handles electrical permits, and Southern California Edison provides service citywide. We pull the city permit, schedule the Edison disconnect, finish the work, and request the city inspection, after which Edison reconnects. Ranch parcels outside city limits are permitted by the County of Ventura instead, so we confirm the jurisdiction for any property near the edge of town before applying.
Many homes there still have their original panels, and some are brands insurers will not accept. A replacement in the same location is usually straightforward, but the association may want to review any exterior change. We can also add arc fault and ground fault protection where it improves safety, and place new outlets at a more accessible height if that helps.
If the parcel is inside city limits, the City of Camarillo does. Many ranch and orchard properties just outside the city are unincorporated, and those go through the County of Ventura. The address alone does not settle it, so we check the parcel before applying. The Edison side of the job is the same either way.
Electrical permits in Camarillo are issued by City of Camarillo. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Camarillo is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
