Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Paramount mixes postwar residential with light industrial, so single phase upgrades and three phase shop work both come up. The city runs its own building department.
Paramount was formed in 1957 when the farm towns of Hynes and Clearwater joined, and both had been dairy and hay market country. The housing that followed is mostly small 1940s and 1950s single family homes, with some older farmhouses and a scattering of duplexes and small apartment buildings. Many of these homes have been added onto more than once, and the wiring tends to reflect it, with circuits extended from the original panel into rooms that did not exist when it was installed.
Running through the city are corridors of light industrial buildings, auto shops, metal fabricators and warehouses. Those owners call about three phase service, added machine circuits and subpanels when a tenant changes. On the residential side, the calls are about panels that cannot take a new air conditioner, rear units that need proper metering, and older homes where a buyer's inspection turned up ungrounded circuits or a fused service still in use.
Paramount's 1940s and 1950s homes, often expanded more than once, usually need a larger service before adding air conditioning or a kitchen remodel.
How we handle it →Duplexes and small apartment buildings in Paramount commonly need meter work when units are added, separated or brought up to code.
How we handle it →Older Paramount farmhouses and early postwar homes often still have ungrounded or deteriorated original wiring behind the walls.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Paramount is permitted through City of Paramount, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Paramount runs its own building department for homes and industrial buildings alike. On a residential job, expect a short chain: permit issued, Edison shuts off the meter, we install, the city inspects, and power comes back after the release. Commercial three phase work adds a step at the front, because Edison's planning group has to approve the new service size and equipment before we can schedule anything.
If the building only has single phase, Edison needs to confirm three phase is available on the street and approve a new service. Then we design the service, pull the city permit, install the gear and coordinate the cutover. If three phase already exists, adding machine circuits and a subpanel is usually much simpler. We start by checking what is on the pole or vault.
Some carriers will still write it, but many will not, and buyers' lenders often require replacement. Fuse boxes also make it hard to add circuits safely. Replacing it with a breaker panel, usually 200 amps, solves the insurance question and gives you room for air conditioning and appliances.
Electrical permits in Paramount are issued by City of Paramount. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Paramount is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
