Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →La Mirada is postwar tract housing on generous lots, most of it still on the original panel. Pool equipment, added AC and EV charging are what drive upgrades here.
Olive and lemon groves planted by publisher Andrew McNally covered this area until the early 1950s, when it was subdivided into single family tracts. The city incorporated in 1960, and most homes date from that decade and the one before it, usually one story ranch houses on larger lots than many neighboring cities, often with pools, patios and detached workshops. Biola University sits near the center of town, and newer homes and townhomes have filled in on the edges since the 1980s.
Calls from La Mirada homeowners typically follow lifestyle upgrades: a pool with heater and variable speed pump, a backyard spa, an outdoor kitchen, solar, or a second car charger. Each adds load to a service that was often 100 amps from the start. Remodels and additions bring rewiring questions, and insurance renewals turn up the original panels. Owners near the university who rent rooms or units sometimes ask about adding capacity for extra occupants.
La Mirada ranch homes adding pools, spas, outdoor kitchens and air conditioning often outgrow their original 100 amp service.
How we handle it →Wide driveways and attached garages on La Mirada lots make charger placement easy once the panel has capacity for the circuit.
How we handle it →Original panels in La Mirada's 1950s and 1960s ranch homes often include Zinsco or Federal Pacific, which many insurers now decline to cover.
How we handle it →Electrical work in La Mirada is permitted through City of La Mirada, and the service is energized by Southern California Edison. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
La Mirada permits electrical work through the city's building process. For a service upgrade, the permit is issued, Edison disconnects, the new equipment goes in, the inspector approves it and the release goes to Edison so power can be restored. Pool projects and remodels sometimes require moving the meter, and Edison reviews the new location before we schedule the cutover.
Pool pumps, heaters, lights and automation add real load, and a heat pump pool heater adds even more. Many original La Mirada services cannot carry all of that alongside air conditioning. We size the pool subpanel, check the main service and handle bonding and GFCI requirements. If an upgrade is needed, doing it with the pool permit keeps one schedule.
Usually yes, but the original panel is often the limit. Solar connects through the panel bus, and older panels have lower bus ratings. Add a charger and you are also drawing a heavy load for hours at a time. Upgrading the panel before solar goes in is often cheaper than working around it later.
Electrical permits in La Mirada are issued by City of La Mirada. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
La Mirada is served by Southern California Edison. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
