Meter stack installations and upgrades
Modern, space saving solutions for multi unit properties that allow individual metering.
Learn more →Anaheim runs Anaheim Public Utilities rather than Edison, so service upgrades here are coordinated with the city utility directly. The housing runs from prewar near the colony district to large postwar tracts, with a heavy apartment stock that needs proper metering.
The oldest blocks sit around the original Anaheim Colony, with bungalows and early ranch homes from the 1910s through the 1940s. West Anaheim filled in with 1950s and early 1960s tracts, and Anaheim Hills came later, mostly 1970s through the 1990s on hillside lots. That spread means three different kinds of panel calls in one city: fused or ungrounded systems in the colony area, original 100 amp tract panels in the west, and hillside homes whose services are fine on age but short on capacity.
A lot of what we see in the west and central flats is postwar housing with Zinsco or Federal Pacific equipment that an insurer has finally flagged at renewal. Apartment owners near Katella, Lincoln and Brookhurst call about tired meter banks and units sharing a house panel that was never meant to carry them. In the hills, the requests run toward pool equipment, EV chargers and full kitchen remodels, where the load calculation decides whether the existing service survives or needs to go to 200 or 400 amps.
West and central Anaheim tracts from the 1950s and 1960s still carry Zinsco and Federal Pacific panels that insurers now refuse to renew without replacement.
How we handle it →Older apartment complexes across central Anaheim need meter banks rebuilt and units separated, with the meter work approved directly by Anaheim Public Utilities.
How we handle it →Anaheim Hills homes with pools, large AC loads and EV plans often need a 200 or 400 amp service before anything new can be added.
How we handle it →Bungalows near the Anaheim Colony district still turn up knob and tube and early cloth wiring that needs replacing before resale or insurance.
How we handle it →Electrical work in Anaheim is permitted through City of Anaheim, and the service is energized by Anaheim Public Utilities. We handle the permit application, the plan check where one is required, the inspection scheduling and the utility coordination as part of the job.
Two city departments are involved here, and neither is Edison. The Building Division issues the electrical permit and inspects the panel and house wiring. Anaheim Public Utilities approves the meter location, may issue an electric service plan if the service changes, and runs its own utility and meter shop inspections after the building inspection passes. Only then does an APU crew energize the new service. We handle the meter spot request, the building permit and both inspection tracks so the dates line up.
Yes. In Anaheim the building inspector checks the panel and wiring first. After that passes, APU sends its own electrical utility inspector and a meter shop inspection covering the service from the power source to the panel. Only after both utility checks pass does APU schedule a crew to energize. Planning for those three inspections is part of how we schedule the job.
Usually not safely. Homes from the 1910s to 1940s often have small fused services, two wire circuits with no ground, and splices hidden in walls and attics. Adding circuits to that stack makes the weak points worse. We open it up, test what is there, and give you a plan that may phase the rewire room by room while keeping the existing plaster and trim intact.
Sometimes. It depends on the load calculation, not the age of the house. A 1980s hillside home with a 200 amp panel, a pool and two AC units may not have room for a 48 amp charger. We run the numbers first. If it fits, the charger goes on the existing service. If not, we size the upgrade and coordinate the service change with APU.
Electrical permits in Anaheim are issued by City of Anaheim. Morff Electric handles the permit application, the plan check where one is required, and the inspection scheduling as part of the job.
Anaheim is served by Anaheim Public Utilities. On a service upgrade or a meter stack the utility has to disconnect and reconnect the service, and Morff Electric coordinates that scheduling so the outage stays as short as possible.
